    The ANIMAL EMERGENCY CLINIC OF SAN DIEGO is proud to be one of San Diego's most experienced pet emergency hospitals, serving Poway, Scripps Ranch, Ramona, Rancho Penasquitos, Rancho Bernardo, and surrounding areas since 1985.

    We are proud to be in the unique position of being a family-owned-and-run hospital. We strive to take care of your pet as if it were a part of our family. We appreciate your confidence in allowing us to care for your pets.

    The AEC is fully equipped to handle all your pet's after-hour urgent care needs. Our modern medical equipment includes full in-house laboratory testing, ultrasound, endoscopy, blood pressure monitoring, EKG, oxygen chambers, digital radiography, and full surgical capabilities.

    Our Doctors and Staff regularly attend continuing education seminars to keep up with the latest in Veterinary Medicine.

    Hours of Operation

    We are open Monday-Thursday at 6:00 p.m. (5:00 for transfers and early check-ins) and close the following morning at 8:00 a.m. We open at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and stay open until Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. We are open 365 nights a year, and provide 24-hour service on weekends and holidays.

    Our Fees

    The Doctor will assess your pet's condition with a physical exam, and, based on those findings, will provide you with an estimate prior to treatment. A deposit based on the estimate will be required at the time of admission, with the balance due at the time of discharge. Cash, personal check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, Debit Card and Paypal are accepted.

    Dr. Michael Wishnack, Chief of Staff

    Dr. Michael Wishnack graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. He practiced both general and emergency medicine for the first eight years of his career but has been solely devoted to emergency medicine since 1994.

    Dr. Wishnack acquired the Animal Emergency Clinic of San Diego in 1999 and is proud that his family plays such an integral role in the running of the hospital. He enjoys playing golf and taking care of the family's menagerie of pets. Don't be surprised if you see one of the family's mini pigs taking a stroll around the hospital!

    Dr. Kristina Welsh

    Kristina N. Welsh, DVM, is a graduate of Oregon State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She spent her first years working at a large rural mixed animal hospital with emergency services in her hometown on the southern Oregon coast.

    Dr. Welsh has been practicing in San Diego at the Animal Emergency Clinic since 2016. Previously, Dr. Welsh worked at Baring Blvd. Veterinary Hospital, one of the leading hospitals in the northern Nevada area, where she further developed her love of surgery and emergency cases. Dr. Welsh's practice emphasizes in trauma, critical care, and non-elective surgeries. Her interests also include regenerative medicine, advanced imaging, as well as mentoring staff and new doctors.

    Dr. Welsh is a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, and California Veterinary Medical Association, and holds licenses in California, Oregon, Nevada, and Hawaii.

    When Dr. Welsh isn’t saving lives, she can be found surfing or playing with her chocolate lab Koa.
